Statement of the Afghanistan Freedom Front Regarding the Assassination of Former ANSF in Tehran

December 25, 2025
The Afghanistan Freedom Front expresses its deepest sorrow and profound condolences over the martyrdom of General Ikramuddin Sarih, a former senior officer of the Afghanistan National Police, and Commander Mohammad Amin Almas, who were assassinated in Tehran, the capital city of the Islamic Republic of Iran, by operatives affiliated with the Taliban terrorist group.

The Afghanistan Freedom Front extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs, their comrades-in-arms, the broader family of the former NSFA, and all freedom fighters of Afghanistan.

The assassination of General Sarih constitutes not only an irreparable loss for their families, but also a deeply painful blow to all personals, movements and fronts opposing the Taliban. Regrettably, under the current circumstances, even those living in exile and displacement continue to be targeted by the deceptive and violent Taliban group.

The Afghanistan Freedom Front considers this criminal, inhumane, and terrorist act to be part of the Taliban’s systematic policy of physically eliminating former ANSF. The usurping Taliban regime views former members of this forces as a potential threat to its illegitimate and unlawful rule. Over the past four years, in pursuing, threatening, assassinating, and eliminating them, the Taliban have recognized no geographical, religious, moral, or legal boundaries.

The Afghanistan Freedom Front calls upon the Islamic Republic of Iran, in accordance with international standards, Islamic values, and its humanitarian obligations, to take immediate and effective measures to protect the lives of Afghanistan refugees—particularly former military personnel—and to identify and prosecute, in accordance with the law, those responsible for planning and carrying out this crime.

The Afghanistan Freedom Front further urges the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately halt the deportation of former ANSF to Afghanistan, as credible and well-documented reports indicate that Taliban militias have subjected deported individuals to arrest, torture, enforced disappearance, and extrajudicial killings.

Furthermore, the Afghanistan Freedom Front calls on the United Nations, based on its legal and moral responsibilities and in accordance with:
• the 1951 Refugee Convention, particularly the principle of Non-Refoulement,
• the 1967 Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees, and
• fundamental principles of international human rights,
to facilitate the immediate and safe transfer of former ANSF from Iran to secure third countries, and through this mechanism, to ensure protection and support for vulnerable and at-risk Afghanistan refugees in fragile host countries.

In conclusion, the Afghanistan Freedom Front emphasizes that neglecting the security of former ANSF is not merely a humanitarian tragedy, but a factor that will contribute to the expansion of cross-border terrorism and regional instability.
May the memory of General Ikramuddin Sarih and his fallen comrades be honored.
